Fourteen-year-old Fanta from Guinea goes to school, takes care of her sick mother and dreams aloud of a career in the Amoukanama circus. Like a true acrobat, she must find balance between her own ambitions and the expectations and gender roles that largely determine her path. Will she be able to do the trick?

‘Fantastique’ is a poetic coming-of-age film about the search for one's own voice. Director Marjolijn Prins interweaves documentary with a touch of magical realism to tell a story about identity, freedom, and ambition. The film had its world premiere during the Kids Screenings at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

This film was nominated for the Flemish UNESCO Commission award (VUC).

After the screening, there will be a Q&A with director Marjolijn Prins and representatives from the circus world.

To round off the event, Amoukanama will perform an acrobatic act.
