An African-American fashion model is possessed by the spirits that haunt the fortress of the Cape Coast in Ghana. She spiritually travels through time and experiences slavery at first hand. 'Sankofa' means in the language of the Akan 'return to the past to get ahead'. It is a denunciation of the horrors of slavery and injustice.
