LA VIE SUR TERRE
At the eve of the new millenium, Abderrahmane Sissako, a Mauretanian filmmaker currently living in France, decides to return to Sokolo, a small village in Mali, to see his father again. The filmmaker explains his urgent desire (in voice-over) to film his birthplace at a time when Europe highly overestimates itself. Inspired by the poetry of Aimé Césaire, he reflects on relations between Africa and Europe in a very interesting way.
