Itto, a young woman from modest origins, has adapted to the privileged lifestyle of her wealthy in-laws. But when supernatural events send Morocco into a strange state of emergency, she becomes separated from her husband. Alone, heavily pregnant and searching for her husband, she encounters both herself and her personal liberation.

Animalia challenges the viewer to reflect on the meaning of life and the role of the unknown. The film shows Morocco's beauty and diversity, but also the social and cultural tensions in the country. Director Sofia Alaoui presents a female perspective on a changing world, in which the main character slowly finds her own voice and place.
