Gesproken: Engels, Pidgin Engels, Yoruba l Ondertiteld: Engels

As tensions rise in Lagos after the 1993 elections, two brothers are living their best day. Remi and Aki have an absent father, but today they get to spend time with him. The older brother tries to gauge him, while the younger one mainly seeks his attention. These small moments together reveal their tensions and their longing for closeness. What starts as an ordinary day out turns into an emotional journey in which the brothers try to discover who their father really is.

‘My Father's Shadow’ was the first Nigerian film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. With his feature debut, director Akinola Davies Jr. created a poetic and semi-autobiographical coming-of-age film about family and identity.
