Ernest Cole: Lost and Found

Spoken: English / Subtitles: French & Dutch

In the sixties, photographer Ernest Cole captured  impactful images of Apartheid in his home country, South Africa. His photos cause a shockwave  throughout the rest of the world. Cole is forced to flee the regime and spends the rest of his days in obscurity, although he continues to photograph Black communities in the US. Slowly but surely, it begins to dawn on him that the equality he so dreamed of, is a disillusion.

After his death, Cole seems to have disappeared from the scene forever, until suddenly, in 2017, 60,000 negatives of his photographs were discovered. This prompts director Raoul Peck to bring his life story back to life in a phenomenal retrospective. At the Cannes Film Festival, ‘Ernest Cole: Lost and Found’ was awarded the L'Oeil d'Or for Best Documentary.
