Gaël Kamilindi's mother was called Didy and died when he was barely five years old. Decades later, the director returns to his native Rwanda to fill in the gaps in his personal history. Together with friends and family, he engages in conversation and delves into old photo albums to reconstruct more and more pieces of Didy's life. Not only does he paint an intimate picture of his mother, but also of an entire generation of women who had to survive during times of genocide, disease, and violence.

Didy is an associative and poetic documentary by Gaël Kamilindi and François-Xavier Destors. The film combines interviews with archive footage and atmospheric observations, openly questioning how memories can shape identity.
