Broadening perspectives
We challenge clichés and present a multifaceted view of Africa, moving away from one-sided representations.
Afrika Filmfestival aims to provide a platform for African cinema and Afro-descendant filmmakers. We connect people and worldviews through cinema.
Afrika Filmfestival aims to provide a platform for African cinema and Afro-descendant filmmakers. Based on the fact that Africa is too often portrayed through a one-sided lens, Afrika Filmfestival works to challenge clichés and broaden perspectives. AFF programmes in a curious and critical way: combining surprise, information, and imagination. Through cinema, AFF seeks to connect people and worldviews.
Afrika Filmfestival screens, promotes, and distributes a wide range of films that inspire the imagination and inform audiences. AFF embraces the principles of polyphony in programming films from the African continent and from Afro-descendant filmmakers.
Afrika Filmfestival originates in Leuven, which remains its base, but is not limited to this region. In collaboration with various partners including international film festivals, filmmakers, cultural intermediaries, and film enthusiasts, AFF builds sustainable exchange and programming that presents and represents cinema in a critical way.
