Women's War
Spoken: French/English/.... Subtitles: English.
Esther Munyerenka works at Panzi-hospital in Bukavu, DR Congo. Mira Vilusic is a psychologist living in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In spring 2009 the two women meet. Despite living continents apart, they fight for the same cause: to help raped women rebuild their lives. Roughly 1.8 million women are estimated to have been raped since the war broke out in 1996. The same thing happened in Bosnia in the 1990s. Wartime rape is one of the worst types of torture. Women's War is a warm and gripping portrait of the encounter between Esther and Mira and sheds light on the devastating consequences of sexualized violence for the women subjected, but also for the community at large. The film also pays tribute to the dedication and determination of women's right activist who put their own security at risk to support those subjected to violence and to put rape onto the political agenda where it belongs. A film about grief and pain, but also about fury and a strong will to bring about change.
