Tori et Lokita
Spoken: French. Subtitles: Dutch.
Two teenagers have fled Africa and ended up in Belgium. The harsh reality of refugee life brings Tori and Lokita together. Together they try to build a life as siblings. A residence permit proves difficult to obtain, which makes it difficult for them to get a residence permit in many ways. Tori and Lokita seem invisible to the world around them, but fortunately they have each other. Forced into a life of illegality, they find themselves in the illegal labour market and in great danger.
In Tori and Lokita, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne hold up a mirror to the viewer. Their observations on the society in which we live, confront us with what we do not want to see. This film was awarded a special prize at Cannes for the 75th edition of the festival. (2022)
