Many Brazilians think that slavery ended in their country with the Golden Law in 1888. Though slave labor exploitation still exists to this day. At this very moment there are about 369 thousand Brazilians living and working as slaves, dehumanized, and reduced as “objects” . Through the testimony of modern abolitionists, labor unions and rural workers – victims of modern slavery-, Servidão explains how slavery continues not only in Brazilian society but worldwide. It denounces the neo-liberal ideology and makes clear that strong labor unions and social justice are more then ever necessary not only in Brazil but worldwide.
