On paper, the social and political struggle has given South Africa a democracy that works well. For many South Africans, however, this is an unfinished project: due to enormous inequality, corruption and concentration of power, many people remain excluded from political and economic participation. Building alternatives from the bottom up seems necessary to enforce better living conditions. Nothing About Us Without Us tells the story of two such alternatives and portrays the search for inclusion, participation, democracy and a better life.
