South Africa, 1981. All white men above the age of sixteen are drafted into compulsory military service, and eighteen-year-old Nicholas is therefore sent to the Angolan border to fight in what is now known as the South African Border War. When confronted with the brutal military culture, Nicholas quickly realizes the importance of keeping a low profile, as being labeled a «moffie» – an abusive Afrikaans homophobic term – can be as dangerous as the weapons they carry.
