A SHADOW OF HOPE

A Shadow of Hope takes a look at the harsh reality of the refugee life in South Africa and the different challenges faced by refugees living in black communities. It is a story about how the locals receive them into their communities, and the troubled interaction between citizen and alien that comes with it. First-time director Pululu Makela explores the effectiveness of the state in countering discrimination and xenophobia experienced by so many refugees in contemporary South Africa.
